George Whitman , the owner of the iconic Shakespeare and Company Bookshop in Paris, France died in December of 2011. In this brief video, Whitmanโ€™s daughter, Sylvia talks about the beginnings of the shop, her father’s dream and continuing the tradition.

  1. I never get tired of Shakespeare and Company. Thanks again and I am glad you enjoyed my posts about George Whitman and the bookstore. It will always hold fond memories for me and I look forward to returning each time I am in Paris.

      1. We’ll just hop into the car and drive south. Should be there in about 10 hours. Btw, we have done that before. (Drive to Paris, I mean.) Spent New Year’s Eve in Paris one year. ๐Ÿ™‚ It was freezing cold but a we loved being there.

  2. I’m glad you posted this. I’ve never been to the bookstore, but one of my dear friends says she made it her “home” while living in Paris. Next time I visit, it will be my first stop!
